A New Model of Early Childhood Intervention will to be Introduced in Georgia

10 Jun, 2014

On May 30, 2014, representatives of the public sector and non-governmental organizations, as well as health and social care professionals, discussed a new model of early childhood intervention at a conference hosted at the Courtyard by Marriott Tbilisi. The conference was held by the Georgian Association of Child Neurology and Neurosurgery with the support of Open Society Georgia Foundation.

The early childhood intervention service provides early detection of problems related to developmental delays and disabilities for children with special needs.

In Georgia, 15,000 children require early childhood intervention services. Currently, however, only 350 children have access to this state-funded service.  Moreover, there are no appropriate early childhood intervention programs available.  At this stage, the state is involved in the development of the strategy.
